India Scholarship for African Students

This is a great opportunity for the Malagasy and Comorian students as the Indian government is offering them the opportunity to apply for the India scholarship through the India Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) going through the Africa scholarship program to apply for undergraduate, postgraduate, and or PhD program among different universities or institutions in India in respect to the applicant choice. The scholarship program is awarded in diverse courses such as; Agriculture, commerce and management, Engineering, and Applied courses which also include; (Journalism and communication, Tourism Management, pharmacy, and lastly computer Application).

All interested applicants for the academic session can apply through ICCR’s A2A Scholarship Portal the closing date for this application will be on 31st May 2024.

It is therefore advisable for interested applicants that before application they should carefully read the policies and guidelines of the scholarship instructions given by the India Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).

Requirements Criteria

Those who are interested in applying must possess the eligibility for the following criteria;

  • All eligible candidates must least be proficient in the English language as this is a major criterion to apply for the scholarship.
  • All eligible candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 30, for those who want to apply for undergraduate or postgraduate courses, and PhD applicants must be between the age of 18 and 45 years old.
  • More importantly, the candidate must be physically fit and must be free from any form of life battling diseases.
  • Finally, interested candidates must have all documents required for the application of this scholarship.            

Document Requirement for Application

  • All certificates acquired by candidates including mark sheets attained from grade 10 coupled with a validated English translation countersign by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if the document isn’t in English.
  • Applicants should also include TOEFL or IELTS and other recognized test scores if available.
  • Interested applicants are also advised to prepare their recommendation letters and character certificates from existing instructions, colleges or universities, etc.
  • An international passport is also a vital requirement for all interested applicants and must be valid for the duration of study.
  • If required by the university then applicants can also include GMAT scores for the commerce and management field respectively.
  • All applicants must possess a certificate of physical fitness signed by a licensed Doctor and the physical fitness format should be downloaded on the ICCR’s A2A Scholarship Portal).

Summary information is only required for PhD candidates.


All candidates must complete their online application in due course, with all necessary information and supporting documents. Any failure by applicants that seems to be incomplete will not be taken into consideration.

Applications of applicants will only be considered if are documents are been translated to English as earlier stated i.e. all applications must be translated into the English language as instructed.

Each applicant has the choice of applying to five different universities.

Applicants who applied for the scholarship must submit a written essay of at least 500 words in English to establish English proficiency while applying online.

All applicants should go through the instructions thoroughly before selecting the school of their choice. Also before application it is important you the read criteria of each school well before applying and applicants are also propelled to submit relevant documents as required by the institution.

For engineering courses, applicants must have Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics in their school leaving examinations.

For the 2023/2024 academic session admission into these courses are not admissible they include; (Nursing / Physiotherapy/anesthesia etc.,) / fashion/law courses / integrated courses such as BALLB (5 Years) / B.Sc. & M.Sc. (5 Years) etc.

Applicants who applied to more than one school are still not guaranteed the ICCR scholarship. The Indian mission will decide the scholarship award to students through a letter. The Indian mission has the final say on the award of scholarships and any complaint before or any scholarship should be directed to the Indian mission only.


  • Applicants who are awarded scholarships are advised to come with at least INR 60,000/- (equivalent to $700) on their arrival.
  • Also, for science courses, the expenses for laboratory practicals will not be included. This implies that science students will be responsible for carrying out any practical organized by the institution.
  • All awarded applicants must have medical insurance, which will cost a minimum of at least 500,000 Indian Rupees per annum. Applicants must have medical insurance before traveling to India, and after arrival, they can purchase medical insurance from any of the insurance companies convenient to them. Therefore, to facilitate students, the A2A Portal has two insurance companies for referral purposes.
  • If necessary, as indicated by the University/Institute in their Provisional Confirmation letter for the applicant, applicants are advised to obtain the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) equivalence.
